Frances Louise Smith Frost

 

Frances Louise Smith Frost, of Clarion, died on March 29, 2018. Born on January 3, 1924 in Clarion, the daughter of the late Fred A. and Frances (Reinsel) Smith.

 

She was a graduate of Clarion High School, a National Honor Society student and co-editor of the first yearbook published at the high school.  Frances did office work most of her life, first as secretary to Attorney Rudy Whitmer until his induction into the service, then as bookkeeper for the Wein Brothers Department Store, and as secretary to the commanding officer of the 331st Army Air Corps Department at Clarion College.  With the disbanding of this unit, she moved to Columbus, OH, to continue her secretarial duties for the Provost Marshal at Lockbourne Air Base until the end of World War II.  Follow the war, Frances was secretary to the Honorable Judge Albert E. Acker, of Mercer County.

 

On September 28, 1946, Frances married Delbert Charles Frost. Frances helped her husband in their business in Pittsburgh, which distributed aftermarket parts and accessories for recreational vehicles.  They retired from this business in 1977 and returned to Clarion.  Upon returning to Clarion, Frances sold real estate for Smathers Real Estate for five years.

 

She enjoyed playing bridge, going to garage sales, and holding her own annual garage sale at her home. She also enjoyed attending class reunions.  She and seven of her high school classmates met once a month for lunch for better than 15 years.

 

Frances in survived by her three sons, James; Stephen, and wife Marilyn; Richard, and wife Diane. Also surviving are six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles Smith, and wife Gertrude; and a sister-in-law, Rose Smith.

 

Frances was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Susan Marie Wagner; a granddaughter, Anne Marie Frost; her sisters, Mary Alice Flick and Patricia Shingledecker; her brothers, Robert Smith and William Smith; and her daughter-in-law, Patricia Frost.

Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood Street in Clarion where visitation will be held from noon until 2:00 p.m. on Monday.  Mass of Christian Buial will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Monday at Immaculate Conception Church, 715 Main Street, Clarion, with Father Monty Sayers, presiding.  Interment will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Clarion.
