LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – With the Clarion football team’s first win of the season came their first weekly conference honor, as Sam Fareri was named the PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week for Oct. 9.
Fareri finished with just five tackles against Seton Hill, but came up with two clutch turnover-inducing plays in leading the Golden Eagles to their first victory of the year against Seton Hill. His first takeaway came in the second quarter as the Griffins set up in Clarion territory; he picked off Christian Strong on what would be Seton Hill’s final drive of the half and raced 45 yards down the sideline to give the Golden Eagles a shot at a field goal to end the period. In the fourth quarter, he ended Seton Hill’s last shot at the go-ahead score by punching the ball out of the hands of Michael Elardo, with Colton McKay recovering the loose ball to seal the win.
For the season, Fareri ranks fifth on the team with 27 total tackles, but he leads the team with three total takeaways. He is tied for the team lead in interceptions (2) with cornerback Myles Edmonds and also has a forced fumble to his credit.
