LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The PSAC announced its weekly wrestling award winners on Monday, with Clarion freshman Toby Cahill earning PSAC Co-Wrestler of the Week honors for Feb. 5. He joins teammate and fellow true freshman Gavin Park in winning the award this year.
Cahill helped Clarion to a comeback win over nationally-ranked Rider on Friday night, winning by fall in the heavyweight bout to clinch the victory over the 21st-ranked Broncs. Trailing 3-1 in the first period to Rider’s Mauro Correnti, Cahill overpowered his opponent and pinned him with 29 seconds remaining in the period, earning six team points and pushing the Golden Eagles over the top.
Cahill is 11-12 overall on the year but has excelled recently, winning five of his last six dual bouts. Of those five wins, two have come by fall and one by major decision. His major decision over Cleveland State’s Collin Kelly helped the Golden Eagles clinch that dual win as well.
Clarion is 8-4 overall and 3-1 in Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) competition with two more conference matches to go. They travel to take on Bloomsburg this Friday, February 9 at 7 p.m. before returning home to host Lock Haven on Sunday, February 11.
