Lauren Skelley, 24, was chosen as the winner of Franklin’s “Taste of Talent” vocal competition over the weekend. She is a 2011 graduate of Clarion Area High School and 2015 graduate of Clarion University. She currently lives in Shippenville and is employed in Direct Care with Passavant Memorial Homes.
During high school she participated in Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) festivals at Districts, Regionals, All-States and the All Eastern conference during her senior year. Lauren participated in multiple musical productions during high school and college. She is a member of the Clarion County Community Choir and has been a soloist for local church services and weddings. She performed during “Broadway – Methodist Style” at the First United Methodist Church in Clarion this year and as her schedule permits, performs at the Barrow Civic Theatre during their “Keepin’ It Real” Cabaret Nights.
Lauren won first place in the 2011 “Clarion Loves Talent” Super Nova category held during the “I Love Clarion” July 3rd celebration. She also was the winner in the 2012 “Lift Your Voice” singing competition conducted by the Holy Name Catholic Church of Ebensburg, PA.
Lauren is the daughter of Linda and Joe Skelley of Clarion.
This was her first time to participate in the Franklin event, which is in its eighth year. Lauren said she enjoyed performing at the Taste of Talent competition and especially liked getting to know all of the other contestants and event organizers. She was so humbled by being selected by ‘audience vote’ as the winner of the Taste of Talent competition, because there were so many talented performers.
